Supporting emotional literacy through storytelling

Hi, I'm Sally Riley - Author of Little Soul Series and creator of My Little Book.

For over 26 years, I have worked with children, families and individuals as a life coach and mentor, helping people navigate emotions, resilience, grief, confidence, self-worth, and personal growth. Through that work, I saw something important.

Many children struggle to explain what they are feeling before they have the words to express it.

That realization inspired me to begin writing children's books that help young readers feel seen, safe, understood, and emotionally supported.

The Little Soul Series was created to open meaningful conversations between children, parents, educators, counsellors, and caregivers. Each story gently explores emotional awareness, courage, identity, intuition, self-trust, emotional regulation, grief, and inner resilience in a way that is accessible for children ages 3-7

My books are designed to:

  • encourage emotional literacy
  • support classroom and home discussions
  • help children identify and express feelings
  • build confidence and empathy
  • create calm, connected reading experiences

As both an author and someone who has spent decades supporting emotional wellbeing, my goal is simple:

To create books to help children feel less alone in what they feel.

The books are intentionally written with warmth, softness, and reflection so they can be used as supportive tools within classrooms, libraries, counselling spaces, and early learning environments.

I believe books can do more than entertain children - they can help shape emotionally healthy, compassionate humans.

Thank you for being here and for supporting books that nurture emotional growth, kindness, and connection.
